Standard Setting with Artificial Neural Networks: TIMSS 2015 Mathematics Case

This study aims to demonstrate the optimal way determine cut-off score be used interpret total scores obtained from an achievement test or scale using Artificial Neural Networks method. To this end, multiple-choice item responses in Booklet-11 Mathematics subtest at 8th grade level TIMSS 2015 Turkey sample dataset were for test. The “Students Like Learning Scale” Student Questionnaire scale. data accessed international database and analyzed MATLAB R2017b software. As a result of study, most appropriate evaluation was determined as 45.5 out 0-100 points with Network analysis overall agreement between pass/fail classification based on 400 points, which is lowest International Benchmark, 81%. Students Scale (SLLSS) student survey 19.6 9-36 points. students who like/don’t like learning mathematics criterion expression given original description found 83%. results concluded that validity standard-setting studies conducted artificial neural network method high. result, researchers are recommended use interpretation scales.
