Given the remote, rugged areas belugas typically inhabit and low rehabilitation success rate with any cetacean, it is rare to have opportunity rescue a live-stranded beluga. The Alaska SeaLife Center cared for two stranded beluga calves different outcomes. In 2012, neonatal male calf (DL1202) following intense storms in Bristol Bay. 2017, helicopter pilot discovered (DL1705) during flight over Cook Inlet. transported both utilized supportive care plans based on those other species of cetaceans at zoological facilities. Diagnostics included complete blood counts, serum chemistries, microbial cultures, hearing tests, imaging morphometric measurements monitor systemic health. Treatments in-pool flotation support; antimicrobials; gastrointestinal close monitoring respirations, urination, defecation behaviour. After three weeks care, Bay succumbed sepsis secondary possible prematurity-related lack passive transfer antibodies. seven weeks, Inlet recovered all medications were discontinued.
