Structural and Functional Properties of Fluorinated Silica Hybrid Barrier Layers on Flexible Polymeric Foil

The reported work was focused on sol–gel-derived organically modified and fluorinated silica coatings deposited elastic polymeric foil. structure topography of the were tested by infrared spectroscopy microscopic studies. functional properties determined using thermal analysis, surface oxygen permeability tests. barrier feature investigated materials against correlated with coatings. hybrid (organic–inorganic) proven, demonstrating presence a network alkyl fluoroalkyl groups since precursors isooctyl group or different lengths chains used for syntheses. free defects had smooth except sample containing longest chain (perfluorododecyl group), which showed wrinkle-like surface. hydrophobic character increased, whereas permeation coefficient values decreased (reaching fourfold lower in comparison to bare substrate) higher content carbon atoms structure. results enriched information from thermomechanical analysis as well nanoindentation scratch tests giving glass transition temperature, expansion coefficient, adhesion, hardness systems.
