Student Autonomy in Secondary Schools: The Potential for Development

This article explores the potential for development of student autonomy in a modern Russian comprehensive school. Despite extensive evidence importance teachers’ support school foreign studies and global trend towards an initiative conscious position schoolchildren relation to learning, psychology education, question value practices such from teachers is currently insufficiently reflected. Studies on adaptation during transition distance learning context pandemic also confirm relevance self-learning skills, self-organization autonomous motivation successful conditions uncertainty. However, there significant shortage research field content prevalence schools. Experts representing twelve general education schools located various regions Russia positioning themselves as developing adolescents or interested its were invited participate presented search study. 12 semi-structured interviews conducted, thematic analysis which made it possible identify main ways interpreting concept educational process, benefits supporting list key barriers preventing support, well describe set psychological pedagogical implemented by specialists.
