Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Extraction of Phenolic Compounds from Potato (Solanum tuberosum) Peels

In the last three decades, greener technologies have been used, aiming at extracting phenolic compounds from vegetable matrices due to inherent advantages compared organic solvent-based methodologies. this work, supercritical CO2 was investigated for recovering acids potato peels. Following screening runs assessing significant extraction parameters, a Central Composite Design of Experiments carried out process optimization, with methanol concentration (MeOH, %) and flow rate (qCO2, g/min) as independent variables. Both parameters were deemed impart effect on final response. Although major acid in peels is chlorogenic (CGA), main compound extracted caffeic (CFA), present 0.75 mg/g dry peel extracts. The optimum conditions 80 °C, 350 bar, MeOH 20%, 18.0 g/min, which enabled total recovery 37% CFA 82%. antioxidant activity fluid (SFE) extracts also measured, highest scavenging capacity reaching 73%. need using mixtures water solvents co-solvents SFE enable CGA seems necessary, possibly its better dissolution aqueous solutions than pure solvents.
