Surface quality investigation in surfactant-based EDM of Inconel 617 using deep cryogenically treated electrodes

Abstract Surface quality governs the physical, mechanical, tribological, physio-chemical, and biological properties of materials. Considering excellent mechanical characteristics Inconel 617 nature its intended applications, electric discharge machining is generally engaged. However, there still a need to uplift surface machined parts improve their working life performance. Therefore, this study revealed potential deep cryogenically treated (DCT) electrodes under dielectrics modified with span tween in said context using full factorial experimental design. Experimental findings are deeply investigated by employing 3D profilometry, scanning electron, optical microscopy. Cryogenically electrode(s) have demonstrated better comparison non-treated electrodes, such as DCT Cu has provided 25.5% lower roughness value than Cu. Referring role additives, exists reduction 32.5% when brass used instead typical mixture span-20 (S-20) kerosene dielectric. The finish given 18.99% compared average all considered study. It also been that tween-based gave 83% span-based electrodes.
