Synthesis, characterizations, crystal structure, inhibition effects and theoretical study of novel Schiff base on the corrosion of carbon steel in 1 M HCl

A novel Schiff base 2, 4- Bis (2‑hydroxy naphthaldehyde) diiminotholuene (L), was prepared and characterized by the analysis techniques: FT-IR, UV-Vis,1H 13C NMR. X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), showing that L crystallized in phenol-imine form. The corrosion inhibition of carbon steel 1 M hydrochloric acid solutions ligand studied using chemical (weight loss) electrochemical (potentiodynamic impedance spectroscopy (EIS)) measurements, these measurements show efficiency obtained this compound increased increasing concentration L. polarization studies acts as mixed type inhibitor. This inhibitor functions through adsorption following Langmuir isotherm. UV–Vis absorption used to investigate forming complex between Fe. scanning electron microscopy (SEM) metal surfaces confirming formation adsorbed layer inhibitor, which slows down process corrosive solution. Density functional theory (DFT) Simulations Molecular Dynamics (SMD) were determine relationship quantum parameters their efficiencies, correlation theoretical experimental results discussed.
