Systematics in the Spectral Energy Distribution Fitting Parameter Estimation of Composite Galaxies

چکیده
Abstract Derivation of physical properties galaxies using spectral energy distribution (SED) fitting is a powerful method, but can suffer from various systematics arising model assumptions. Previously, such biases were mostly studied in the context individual galaxies. In this study, we investigate potential performing SED on combined light two galaxies, as would be case postmerger systems. We use GALEX-SDSS-WISE Legacy Catalog z < 0.3 to identify 9000 galaxy pairs that could eventually merge. For these if UV/optical accurately determines stellar mass and (specific) star formation rate (sSFRs) pair was unresolved (merged). The sum masses (and rates (SFRs)) establishes ground truth for quantities. star-forming no (<0.1 dex) are found mass, SFR, or sSFRs. Moderate SFR (∼0.1 systems with an extreme contrast dust content between conclude arise determination SFRs account original having potentially very different histories small approach simple two-component adequate. presented flux compositing empirically determined truth, offers new opportunities testing results general.

Decomposing Dusty Galaxies. I. Multi-component Spectral Energy Distribution Fitting
We present a new multi-component spectral energy distribution (SED) decomposition method and use it to analyze the ultraviolet to millimeter wavelength SEDs of a sample of dusty infrared-luminous galaxies. SEDs are constructed from spectroscopic and photometric data obtained with the Spitzer Space Telescope in conjunction with photometry from the literature. Each SED is decomposed into emission...
متن کاملThe Spectral Energy Distribution of Spiral Galaxies
Spectral energy distributions (SEDs) are some of the most important sources of information for galaxies, especially for high redshift ones. Here we review recent work on the subject. We discuss the integrated spectra of galaxies of different morphological and activity type, their application to derive K-corrections and classification of high redshift objects. We also discuss the radio to X-rays...
متن کاملThe spectral energy distribution of dust in clusters of galaxies
Although infrared (IR) overall dust emission from clusters of galaxies has been statistically detected using data from the Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS), it has not been possible to sample the spectral energy distribution (SED) of this emission over its peak, and thus to break the degeneracy between dust temperature and mass. By complementing the IRAS spectral coverage with Planck sate...
متن کامل2 00 9 Spectral Energy Distribution Fitting : Application to Ly α - Emitting Galaxies ⋆
Spectral Energy Distribution (SED) fitting is a well-developed astrophysical tool that has recently been applied to high-redshift Lyα-emitting galaxies. If rest-frame ultraviolet through near-infrared photometry is available, it allows the simultaneous determination of the star formation history and dust extinction of a galaxy. Lyαemitter SED fitting results from the literature find star format...
متن کاملModelling the spectral energy distribution of galaxies . IV
We present corrections for the change in the apparent scalelengths, central surface brightnesses and axis ratios due to the presence of dust in pure disk galaxies, as a function of inclination, central face-on opacity in the B-band (τ f B ) and wavelength. The correction factors were derived from simulated images of disk galaxies created using geometries for stars and dust which can reproduce t...
