چکیده
Tangled dislocation structures inside the channels of rapid-cooled and tensile deformed aluminum single crystals were investigated by using BF-STEM. Inside channels, arrays prismatic loops belonging to primary slip system, i.e., (1 1 1)[1 0 1], mainly formed. Dislocations coplanar systems such as 1)[0 1] 0] activated due internal stresses caused dislocations pile-up cleared channels. The leave elongated along edge directions behind them. Inter-dislocation-loop interactions take place especially at produce “butterfly shape” loops. Since have “sessile” junctions, they should act “obstacles” against following multiplications glides dislocations. As proceed, are stabilized grow “tangles”.

Bending crystals: emergence of fractal dislocation structures.
We provide a minimal continuum model for mesoscale plasticity, explaining the cellular dislocation structures observed in deformed crystals. Our dislocation density tensor evolves from random, smooth initial conditions to form self-similar structures strikingly similar to those seen experimentally-reproducing both the fractal morphologies and some features of the scaling of cell sizes and misor...
متن کاملDislocation Microstructures and the Effective Behavior of Single Crystals
We consider single-crystal plasticity in the limiting case of infinite latent hardening, which signifies that the crystal must deform in single slip at all material points. This requirement introduces a nonconvex constraint, and thereby induces the formation of fine-scale structures. We restrict attention throughout to linearized kinematics and deformation theory of plasticity, which is appropr...
متن کاملDislocation subgrain structures and modeling the plastic hardening of metallic single crystals
A single crystal plasticity theory for insertion into finite element simulation is formulated using sequential laminates to model subgrain dislocation structures. It is known that local models do not adequately account for latent hardening, as latent hardening is not only a material property, but a nonlocal property (e.g. grain size and shape). The addition of the nonlocal energy from the forma...
متن کاملDislocation cell structures in melt-grown semiconductor compound crystals
The phenomenon of dislocation patterning during melt growth of III-V, II-VI and IV-VI semiconductor crystals is discussed. The paper is focused on the formation of cellular structures driven by the growth inherent thermo-mechanical stress. Of particular interest is the scaling of relations between cells size, dislocation density and acting shear stress. Among the materials there are characteris...
متن کاملDislocation nucleation in bcc Ta single crystals studied by nanoindentation
The study of dislocation nucleation in close-packed metals by nanoindentation has recently attracted much interest. Here, we address the peculiarities of the incipient plasticity in body centered cubic bcc metals using low index Ta single crystals as a model system. The combination of nanoindentation with high-resolution atomic force microscopy provides us with experimental atomic-scale informa...
