TECHNICAL COMPARISON OF COMMAND TYPES FOR AUTOMATIC GENERATION CONTROL IN SCADA AGC EMS WITH IEC-BASED COMMUNICATION PROTOCOLS

To preserve the natural balance, stability, and reliability of an electric power system, its frequency is one most relevant variables to control; therefore, control schemes by stages are used. In particular, secondary regulation, also known as automatic generation (AGC), performed remotely from a system operator’s center in cases using efficient energy management systems (EMS). They use SCADA-AGC-EMS, which tools for operating that turn current international regulations adapt many supervisory mechanisms. There available options implement standards, there advantages disadvantages between them, without invalidating possibility them freely. this study, implications applicable AGC electrical presented, evaluating deviations permissible values due failures common operation system. With premise, main objective research find best option minimizes these way adequate guarantee stability large-scale systems, case Colombian grid.
