We investigate temperature dependent electronic correlation effects in the conduction bands of Gadolinium Nitride (GdN) based on the combination of many body analysis of the multi-band Kondo lattice model and the first principles TB-LMTO bandstructure calculations. The physical properties like the quasi-particle density of states (Q-DOS), spectral density (SD) and quasi-particle bandstructure (...

Proximity effects in superconductor/insulating-ferromagnet NbN/GdN multilayers.

Proximity effects between superconducting and magnetic layers have been some of the most actively studied subjects in the past decades. It has been well established that magnetic moments and magnetic order are highly effective in destroying Cooper pairs and strongly depressing superconductivity. Thus in superconductor/ferromagnet (S/F) multilayers, one observes that the superconducting transiti...

GDN Working Paper Series GDN Education

This paper reviews governance and institutional challenges facing educational systems in developing countries. We outline a framework for education service delivery and offer a comprehensive review of policies and programs to address the twin goals of decreasing barriers to attending school and reducing stark quality deficits with respect to developed countries. We review experimental and quasi...

Correlation Effects and Temperature Dependencies in Thin Ferromagnetic Films: Magnetism and Electronic Structure

This dissertation is concerned with the theoretical investigation of the electronic and magnetic properties of 4f systems with film geometry. The presented theory is based on the s-f model which features an intra-atomic exchange between a system of localized magnetic moments and the conduction electrons. The model is investigated for the special case of zero band occupation of the conduction ba...

Comment on "Electronic correlation effects and the Coulomb gap at finite temperature".

We have investigated the effect of the long-range Coulomb interaction on the one-particle excitation spectrum of n-type germanium, using tunneling spectroscopy on mechanically controllable break junctions. At low temperatures, the tunnel conductance shows a minimum at zero bias voltage due to the Coulomb gap. Above 1 K, the gap is filled by thermal excitations. This behavior is reflected in the...
