Temporal smoothing - A step forward for time-spectral methods

Time-spectral methods may feature substantial advantages over time-stepping solvers for solution of initial-value ODEs and PDEs, but their efficiency depends on the smoothness solution. We present two to overcome this problem. The first involves transforming differential equation an a new variable, related time-integrated solution, before applying algorithm. In second method, procedure transformation exact equations running average is outlined. Examples stiff problems with multiple time scales are presented, employing time-spectral Generalized Weighted Residual Method (GWRM). It found that smoothing algorithms have significant positive effect convergence.
