Ternary PtRuTe alloy nanofibers as an efficient and durable electrocatalyst for hydrogen oxidation reaction in alkaline media

Sluggish kinetics of anodic hydrogen oxidation reaction (HOR) in alkaline media, which arises from the two orders magnitude lower HOR activity alkali than that acid media for platinum group metals, hinders commercial implementation anion exchange membrane fuel cells (AEMFCs). Consequently, development platinum-based catalysts combined with high efficiency and durability is urgently required. Herein, we report a facile route synthesis ternary PtRuTe alloy nanofibers Pt atomic ratio only 11% via simple galvanic replacement reaction. We optimize adsorption strength ruthenium towards hydroxyl species by regulating electron donation tellurium to ruthenium. Hence, obtained trimetallic catalyst exhibits an impressive kinetic current density 30.6 mA cm−2geo at 50 mV 0.426 cm−2metal, shows 3.0- 2.5-fold enhancement compared Pt/C electrolyte, respectively. Moreover, also demonstrates excellent stability merely 5% attenuation after 2000 potential cycles. This work offers new pathways boost rationally designing multicomponent alloys.
