چکیده

Abstract This study presents a conceptual framework of buffering through storage and recycling elements in terrestrial ecosystems reviews the current knowledge about plants ecosystems. Terrestrial ecosystems, defined here as plant-soil systems, buffer inputs from atmosphere bedrock elements, i.e., they dampen delay their responses to inputs. Our challenges conventional paradigms ecosystem resistance derived plant community dynamics, instead shows that element pools fluxes have an overriding effect on sensitivity environmental change. While allow variability over short intermediate periods, enables longer periods. The presented improves our ability predict is urgently needed define thresholds which must not be exceeded guarantee functioning. provides for future research explore extent

Eutrophication: impacts of excess nutrient inputs on freshwater, marine, and terrestrial ecosystems.

In the mid-1800s, the agricultural chemist Justus von Liebig demonstrated strong positive relationships between soil nutrient supplies and the growth yields of terrestrial plants, and it has since been found that freshwater and marine plants are equally responsive to nutrient inputs. Anthropogenic inputs of nutrients to the Earth's surface and atmosphere have increased greatly during the past t...

Sinks for nitrogen inputs in terrestrial ecosystems: a meta-analysis of N tracer field studies

Effects of anthropogenic nitrogen (N) deposition and the ability of terrestrial ecosystems to store carbon (C) depend in part on the amount of N retained in the system and its partitioning among plant and soil pools. We conducted a meta-analysis of studies at 48 sites across four continents that used enriched N isotope tracers in order to synthesize information about total ecosystem N retention...
