چکیده
Headline constraints on cosmological parameters from current weak lensing surveys are derived two-point statistics that known to be statistically sub-optimal, even in the case of Gaussian fields. We study performance a new fast implementation Quadratic Maximum Likelihood (QML) estimator, optimal for fields, test Pseudo-Cl estimators upcoming and quantify gain more method. Through use realistic survey geometries, noise levels, power spectra, we find there is decrease errors recovered E-mode spectra level ~20% when using QML estimator over largest angular scales, while significant decreases associated with B-modes estimator. This raises prospects being able constrain physics through enhanced sensitivity forthcoming our provides. method uses conjugate-gradient finite-differences differentiation methods resulting most efficient full-sky yet, allowing us process maps at resolutions prohibitively expensive existing codes. In addition, investigate effects apodisation, B-mode purification, non-Gaussian statistical properties estimators. Our publicly available can accessed GitHub.

Mining Weak Lensing Surveys
We present a survey of the cosmological applications of the next generation of weak lensing surveys, paying special attention to the computational challenges presented by the number of galaxies, N gal ∼ 10 5. We focus on optimal methods with no pixelization and derive a multigrid P 3 M algorithm that performs the relevant computations in O(N gal log N gal) time. We test the algorithm by studyin...
متن کاملCosmology with weak lensing surveys.
Weak gravitational lensing is responsible for the shearing and magnification of the images of high-redshift sources due to the presence of intervening mass. Since the lensing effects arise from deflections of the light rays due to fluctuations of the gravitational potential, they can be directly related to the underlying density field of the large-scale structures. Weak gravitational surveys ar...
متن کاملOptimal Surveys for Weak Lensing Tomography
Weak lensing surveys provide a powerful probe of dark energy through the measurement of the mass distribution of the local Universe. A number of ground-based and space-based surveys are being planned for this purpose. Here, we study the optimal strategy for these future surveys using the joint constraints on the equation of state parameter wn and its evolution wa as a figure of merit by conside...
متن کاملOn the Maximum Likelihood Estimators for some Generalized Pareto-like Frequency Distribution
Abstract. In this paper we consider some four-parametric, so-called Generalized Pareto-like Frequency Distribution, which have been constructed using stochastic Birth-Death Process in order to model phenomena arising in Bioinformatics (Astola and Danielian, 2007). As examples, two ”real data” sets on the number of proteins and number of residues for analyzing such distribution are given. The co...
متن کاملCosmological Constraints from Weak Lensing Surveys
Focusing on the well motivated aperture mass statistics Map, we study the possibility of constraining cosmological parameters using future space based SNAP class weak lensing missions. Using completely analytical results we construct the covariance matrix for estimators based on two-point and three-point statistics. Our approach incorporates an accurate modelling of higher-order statistics to d...
