The Antibacterial Activity of Red Betel (Piper crocatum) Leaf Extract toward Staphylococcus aureus

Background: Red betel (Piper crocatum) is a plant that grows lot in the tropics, especially Indonesia. The use of red tropical area, leaves for medicine due to fact contain essential oils. Purpose: To examine antibacterial activity leaf extract against Staphylococcus aureus by investigate at minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and bactericidal (MBC) values. Methods: This study used an vitro laboratory experiment as its research method. post-test only control group design was this study, which experimental groups were not chosen random each two compared. Results: had been extracted 100% diluted into several concentrations, namely 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25%, 3.75%. results dilution obtained value bacteria while 12.5%. Conclusion: MBC with MIC 6.25%.
