The CARMA-NRO Orion Survey: Filament Formation via Collision-induced Magnetic Reconnection—the Stick in Orion A
نویسندگان
چکیده
A unique filament is identified in the {\it Herschel} maps of Orion giant molecular cloud. The filament, which, we name Stick, ruler-straight and at an early evolutionary stage. Transverse position-velocity diagrams show two velocity components closing on Stick. shows consecutive rings/forks C$^{18}$O(1-0) channel maps, which reminiscent structures generated by magnetic reconnection. We propose that Stick formed via collision-induced reconnection (CMR). use magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) code Athena++ to simulate collision between diffuse clumps, each carrying anti-parallel field. clump produces a narrow, straight, dense with factor $>$200 increase density. production gas seven times faster than free-fall collapse. ring/fork-like radiative transfer maps. Cores are confined surface pressure. CMR can be important dense-gas-producing mechanism Galaxy beyond.

Star Formation in the Orion-monoceros Complex
Pre-main sequence stars in the Orion-Monoceros Complex are either distributed in groups closed associated with dense cores, or dispersed along molecular filaments. Some molecular clouds are apparently affected by the OrionEridanus Superbubble created by the Wolf-Rayet winds and supernovae from the OriOB1 association, whose shock fronts compressed and triggered starbirth in adjacent molecular cl...
متن کاملOrion: a Microsatellite Testbed for Formation Flying
A revolution in spacecraft guidance, navigation and control technology has started with GPS to autonomously provide spacecraft position, attitude and time information. This new technology is being applied to spacecraft constellations to achieve the precision formation flying required for many proposed science and commercial missions. These innovations will also result in significant reductions ...
متن کاملTesting Massive Star Formation Theory in Orion
I compare theoretical models of massive star formation with observations of the Orion Hot Core, which harbors one of the closest massive protostars. Although this region is complicated, many of its features (size, luminosity, accretion disk, H II region, outflow) may be understood by starting with a simple model in which the star forms from a massive gas core that is a coherent entity in approx...
متن کاملA Uniform CO Survey of the Molecular Clouds in Orion
We report the results of a new large scale survey of the Orion-Monoceros complex of molecular clouds made in the J = 1 → 0 line of 12 CO with the Harvard-Smithsonian 1.2 m millimetre-wave telescope. The survey consists of 52 288 uniformly spaced spectra that cover an area of 432 deg 2 on the sky and represent the most sensitive large-scale survey of the region to date. Distances to the constitu...
متن کاملThe Orion Gamma-ray emission and the Orion-Eridanus bubble
We review the implications of the gamma-ray emission detected by COMPTEL in Orion, assuming that it is due to energetic particle (EP) interactions within the Orion clouds. We show that a series of independent arguments converge toward a model in which the EPs originate from the Orion-Eridanus bubble, located in front of the molecular cloud complex. We investigate in detail the question of energ...
