The chromosome-level genome of double-petal phenotype jasmine (Jasminum sambac Aiton) provides insights into the biosynthesis of floral scent

Jasmine (Jasminum sambac Aiton) is a well-known cultivated plant species for its fragrant flowers used in the perfume industry and cosmetics. However, genetic basis of floral scent largely unknown. In this study, using PacBio, Illumina, 10× Genomics high-throughput chromosome conformation capture (Hi-C) sequencing technologies, high-quality chromosome-level reference genome J. was obtained, exploiting double-petal phenotype cultivar ‘Shuangbanmoli’ (JSSB). The results showed that final assembled JSSB 580.33 Mb size (contig N50 = 1.05 Mb; scaffold 45.07 Mb) with total 39 618 predicted protein-coding genes. Our analyses revealed has undergone an ancient whole-genome duplication (WGD) event at 91.68 million years ago (Mya). It estimated diverged from lineage leading to Olea europaea Osmanthus fragrans about 28.8 Mya. On combination genomic, transcriptomic metabolomic analyses, range volatiles genes were identified involved benzenoid/phenylpropanoid terpenoid biosynthesis pathways. provide new insights into molecular mechanism fragrance jasmine.
