The datafication revolution in criminal justice: An empirical exploration of frames portraying data-driven technologies for crime prevention and control

چکیده
The proliferation of big data analytics in criminal justice suggests that there are positive frames and imaginaries legitimising them depicting as the panacea for efficient crime control. Criminological scholarship has paid insufficient attention to these their accompanying narratives. To address gap created by lack theoretical empirical insight this area, article draws on a study systematically reviewed compared multidisciplinary academic abstracts data-driven tools now shaping decision-making across several systems. Using insights distilled from study, proposes three (optimistic, neutral, oppositional) understanding how technologies portrayed. Inherent set narratives emphasising ostensible status vital control mechanisms. These obfuscate harms evince idealistic capabilities. bolstered unequal structural arrangements, specifically unevenly distributed digital capital with which some empowered participate technology development application other forms penal governance. In unravelling issues, advances current dynamics sustain depiction prime prevention law enforcement tools.
