The dissociations of confidence from accuracy in forced-choice recognition judgments

چکیده
Judgment of confidence in memory is likely to track accuracy if those factors shaping also shape confidence. In recognition memory, determined by the relative level evidence present for target and that supporting lures. As discrepancy between targets lures increases, so does likelihood correct responding. contrast, this study shows can instead depend on absolute chosen rather than balance four experiments, using different types forced-choice tests, we demonstrate generally manipulating strength affects judgments but varying creates robust confidence-accuracy dissociations, changing while not affecting Together, these data support an account dissociations across conditions are be ubiquitous.

Confidence-accuracy calibration in absolute and relative face recognition judgments.
Confidence-accuracy (CA) calibration was examined for absolute and relative face recognition judgments as well as for recognition judgments from groups of stimuli presented simultaneously or sequentially (i.e., simultaneous or sequential mini-lineups). When the effect of difficulty was controlled, absolute and relative judgments produced negligibly different CA calibration, whereas no significa...
متن کاملAging and confidence judgments in item recognition.
We examined the effects of aging on performance in an item-recognition experiment with confidence judgments. A model for confidence judgments and response time (RTs; Ratcliff & Starns, 2013) was used to fit a large amount of data from a new sample of older adults and a previously reported sample of younger adults. This model of confidence judgments allows us to distinguish between changes evide...

15 صفحه اولDecision rules for recognition memory confidence judgments.
According to the standard signal-detection model of recognition memory, confidence judgments for recognition responses are reached in much the same way that old-new decisions are reached (i.e., on the basis of criteria situated along the strength-of-evidence axis). The question investigated here is how the confidence criteria shift when recognition accuracy is manipulated across conditions. Alt...
متن کاملYes/No Recognition, Forced-choice Recognition, and the Human Hippocampus
Two recent studies reported that yes/no recognition can be more impaired by hippocampal lesions than forced-choice recognition when the targets and foils are highly similar. This finding has been taken in support of two fundamental proposals: (1) yes/no recognition tests depend more on recollection than do forced-choice tests; and (2) the hippocampus selectively supports the recollection proces...
