The Effects on Target, By-Catch and Discard Catch of Using Multifilament and Monofilament With Selvedge (Guarding Net) on the Trammel Nets in the Black Sea Coastal Fisheries

This study was carried out in 13 fishing operations the inner harbor area of Sinop, from September through November 2004. Trammel nets were used, which has 32 mm mesh size and target fish species gear is red mullet (Mullus barbatus) study. Three net groups used experiments, without selvedge (A0) for control net, multifilament with (A1) monofilament (A2) respectively. 65.3% Osteichthyes (696 individuals), 16.8% Mollusca (179 16.4% Arthropoda (175 individuals) 1.5% Chondrichthyes (16 catch obtained form. A total 124 individuals as (red mullet), 398 bycatch species, 544 discarded captured sea trials. Catch ratio A0, A1 A2 determined 51.88%, 21.58% 26.55% 48.38% 30.40% bycatches 57.53% caught by A0 net. 25.81% 45.23% bycatches, 18.57% discard 24.37% The results showed that use (guarding net) on trammel Black Sea coastal fisheries caused a slight decrease catch, but significantly decreased amount catch.
