The flat sky approximation to galaxy number counts

چکیده
We derive and test an approximation for the angular power spectrum of galaxy number counts in flat sky limit. The standard density redshift space distortion (RSD) terms resulting are distinct to Limber approximation, providing accurate result multipoles as low $\ell\simeq10$, where corresponding is completely inaccurate. At equal accuracy RSD (standard) around 0.2% $z<3$ 0.5% at $z=5$, even $\ell<50$. unequal redshifts, if we consider total spectrum, precision better than 5% only very small differences, $\delta <\delta_0 (\simeq 3.6\times10^{-4}(1+z)^{2.14})$ well-approximated, or large enough differences >\delta_1 0.33(r(z)H(z))/(z+1))$ lensing dominate. expressions pure lensing-density cross-correlation equivalent approximation. For arbitrary achieves (above $\ell\simeq 40$ 80$ density-lensing). Besides being accurate, computationally much simpler can therefore be useful data analysis forecasts with MCMC methods. This will particularly crucial upcoming surveys that measure counts.

Persistent fluctuations in galaxy number counts
– Fractal properties are usually characterized by means of various statistical tools which deal with spatial average quantities. Here we focus on the determination of fluctuations around the average counts and we develop a test for the study of galaxy distribution both in redshift and magnitude space. Fluctuations in the counts of galaxies, in a fractal distribution, are of the same order of th...
متن کاملGalaxy number counts and Fractal correlations
– We report the correlation analysis of various redshift surveys which shows that the available data are consistent with each other and manifest fractal correlations (with dimension D ≃ 2) up to the present observational limits (≈ 150hMpc) without any tendency towards homogenization. This result points to a new interpretation of the number counts that represents the main subject of this letter....
متن کاملSubmillimeter Galaxy Number Counts and Magnification by Galaxy Clusters
We present an analytical model which reproduces measured galaxy number counts from surveys in the wavelength range of 500 μm to 2 mm. The model involves a single high-redshift galaxy population with a Schechter luminosity function which has been gravitationally lensed by galaxy clusters in the mass range 10 to 10M⊙. This simple model reproduces both the low flux and the high flux end of the num...
متن کاملGalaxy number counts - V. Ultra-deep counts: The Herschel and Hubble Deep Fields
We present u, b, r & i galaxy number counts and colours both from the North and South Hubble Space Telescope Deep Fields and from the William Herschel Deep Field. The latter comprises a 7 × 7 area of sky reaching b ∼28.5 at its deepest. Following Metcalfe et al. (1996) we show that simple Bruzual & Charlot evolutionary models which assume exponentially increasing star-formation rates with look-...
متن کاملPersistent fluctuations and scaling properties in galaxy number counts
Counts of galaxies as a function of apparent magnitude are among the most time-honored observations in cosmology. In this Letter, we focus on some statistical properties of these counts which are fundamental in order to characterize the large scale correlations in the galaxy spatial distribution. There are, in fact, no longer doubts since two decades of the existence of very large scale structu...
