5 Hyperelliptic Theta - Functions and Spectral Methods

This is the second in a series of papers on the numerical treatment of hyperelliptic theta-functions with spectral methods. A code for the numerical evaluation of solutions to the Ernst equation on hyperelliptic surfaces of genus 2 is extended to arbitrary genus and general position of the branch points. The use of spectral approximations allows for an efficient calculation of all characteristi...

Projections in rotation algebras and theta functions

For each α ∈ (0, 1), Aα denotes the universal C -algebra generated by two unitaries u and v, which fulfill the commutation relation uv = evu. We consider the order four automorphism σ of Aα defined by σ(u) = v, σ(v) = u −1 and describe a method for constructing projections in the fixed point algebra Aσα, using Rieffel’s imprimitivity bimodules and Jacobi’s theta functions. In the case α = q, q ...

Holomorphic projections and Ramanujan's mock theta functions.

We use spectral methods of automorphic forms to establish a holomorphic projection operator for tensor products of vector-valued harmonic weak Maass forms and vector-valued modular forms. We apply this operator to discover simple recursions for Fourier series coefficients of Ramanujan's mock theta functions.

On the Cohomology of Theta Divisors of Hyperelliptic Jacobians

We prove that k-th singular cohomology group of the complement of the theta divisor in a hyperelliptic Jacobian is isomorphic to the k-th fundamental representation of the symplectic group Sp(2g,C). This is one of the conjectures in the paper [11].

Qibla, and Related, Map Projections

The Qibla problem determination of the direction to Mecca has given rise to retro-azimuthal map projections, an interesting, albeit unusual and little known, class of map projections. Principal contributors to this subject were Craig and Hammer, both writing in 1910. The projections thus introduced are examined. An unusual recent discovery from Iran suggests that Muslims might have been prior i...
