The impact of street canyon morphology and traffic volume on NO2 values in the street canyons of Antwerp

Air pollution remains a major environmental and health concern in urban environments, especially street canyons that show increased levels due to lack of natural ventilation. Previous studies have investigated the relationship between canyon morphology in-canyon levels. However, these are typically limited scale single city-wide assessments on this matter scarce. In 2018, NO2 concentrations were measured 321 city Antwerp (Belgium) as part large-scale citizen-science project “CurieuzeNeuzen”. our research, data was used study correlation morphological indices (e.g. aspect ratio (AR), lateral (LAR), presence trees) traffic volumes scale. The maximum hourly volume (TVmax) AR correlated significantly with values, making them useful indicators for air quality canyons. For > 0.65, TVmax 300 vehicles/hour found threshold value guarantee acceptable quality. No significant correlations other parameters. Finally, number typical types defined, which can be fundamental interest further research spatial policy making.
