چکیده

Controversial studies on the jet collimation profile of BL Lacertae (BL Lac), eponymous blazar Lac objects class, complicate scenario in this already puzzling class objects. Understanding geometry, connection with kinematics and physical conditions surrounding medium, is fundamental to better constrain formation, acceleration mechanisms extragalactic jets. With aim investigating geometry innermost regions Lac, solving controversy, we explore radio source, using high resolution millimeter-wave VLBI data. We collect 86GHz GMVA 43GHz VLBA data obtain stacked images that use infer by means two comparable methods. analyze at 86GHz, discuss it context expansion. Finally consider a possible implication Bondi sphere shaping different expanding region observed along jet. found expands an overall conical geometry. A higher rate between ~5 10 pc (de-projected) from black hole. Such associated decrease brightness usually high-frequency Lac. The retrieves original expansion around 17 pc, where presence recollimation shock supported both 15GHz (MOJAVE survey). change occurring could be external pressure correspondence radius (~3.3X10$^5$$R_s$).

High-resolution imaging of Einstein Slew Survey BL Lacertae objects

High-resolution images of 7 newly identified BL Lac objects (among them one BL Lac candidate) at z ≤ 0.2 from the Einstein Slew Survey are presented for the first time. In all cases we were able to resolve the host galaxy. Our 2−dimensional analysis of the host galaxies shows that all these BL Lac objects are embedded in elliptical galaxies with an average MR = −23.1 and re = 10 kpc. One BL Lac...

Jet formation in BL Lacertae objects with different accretion modes

We estimate the masses of massive black holes in BL Lac objects from their host galaxy luminosity. The power of jets and central optical ionizing luminosity for a sample of BL Lac objects are derived from their extended radio emission and the narrow-line emission, respectively. The maximal jet power can be extracted from a standard thin accretion disk/spinning black hole is calculated as a func...

The Radio Jet Velocities at High Resolution

The different methods to derive the jet velocity and orientation on the parsec scale are presented. From these methods I will discuss the velocity distribution of parsec scale jets and the possible presence of acceleration or deceleration in the jet velocity. Moreover, evidences of jet velocity structures will be reported. Finally I will present new data on the superluminal giant radio source 1...

The Cosmological Evolution of BL Lacertae Objects

We review the main results from several radio, X-ray and multi-frequency surveys on the topic of cosmological evolution of BL Lacertae objects. Updated findings on BL Lac evolution following the recent identification of many sources in the ”Sedentary Multi-Frequency survey” are also discussed. By means of extensive Monte Carlo simulations we test some possible explanations for the peculiar cosm...

Jet quenching via jet collimation

The strong modifications of dijet properties in heavy ion collisions measured by ATLAS and CMS provide important constraints on the dynamical mechanisms underlying jet quenching. In this work, we show that the transport of soft gluons away from the jet cone — jet collimation — can account for the observed dijet asymmetry with values of q̂ L that lie in the expected order of magnitude. Further, w...
