The missing link between standing- and traveling-wave resonators

چکیده

Optical resonators are structures that utilize wave interference and feedback to confine light in all three dimensions. Depending on the mechanism, can support either standing- or traveling-wave modes. Over years, distinction between these two different types of modes has become so prevalent nowadays it is one main characteristics for classifying optical resonators. Here, we show an intermediate link rather groups exists. In particular, introduce a new class photonic supports hybrid mode, i.e. at location along resonator electromagnetic fields associated with mode feature purely standing-wave pattern, while location, same represent pure traveling wave. The proposed concept general be implemented using chip-scale photonics as well free-space optics. Moreover, extended other phenomena such microwaves acoustics.

Modal coupling in traveling-wave resonators.

High-Q traveling-wave-resonators can enter a regime in which even minute scattering amplitudes associated with either bulk or surface imperfections can drive the system into the so-called strong modal coupling regime. Resonators that enter this regime have their coupling properties radically altered and can mimic a narrowband reflector. We experimentally confirm recently predicted deviations fr...

Beam Dynamics in a Hybrid Standing Wave- Traveling Wave Photoinjector

We discuss the dynamics of of a photoinjector beam in a hybrid traveling wavestanding wave photoinjector. With the field profile deduced from electromagnetic simulations, it is seen that the acceleration program induces strong velocity bunching. The beam dynamics in this scenario are explored using UCLA PARMELA. With a solenoid field overlaid on the TW section one may control emittance oscillat...

The missing link between hydrogenosomes and mitochondria.

Mitochondria typically respire oxygen and possess a small DNA genome. But among various groups of oxygen-shunning eukaryotes, typical mitochondria are often lacking, organelles called hydrogenosomes being found instead. Like mitochondria, hydrogenosomes are surrounded by a double-membrane, produce ATP and sometimes even have cristae. In contrast to mitochondria, hydrogenosomes produce molecular...

The Missing Link - between Requirements and Design

The combination of complex system design and management today requires a profound understanding of the relationships between the requirements and design processes throughout the product life cycle. To practice Systems Engineering merely as a technical matter is a serious misjudgment. Engineering is an interdisciplinary approach for all those involved in the Product Creation Process (PCP). The s...

The missing link between action and cognition.

The study of the neural correlates of motor behaviour at the systems level has received increasing consideration in recent years. One emerging observation from this research is that neural regions typically associated with cognitive operations may also be recruited during the performance of motor tasks. This apparent convergence between action and cognition - domains that have most often been s...
