چکیده
Photochemical energy conversion during oxygenic photosynthesis is performed by membrane-embedded chlorophyll-binding protein complexes. The biogenesis and maintenance of these complexes requires auxiliary factors that optimize the assembly process protect nascent from photodamage. In cyanobacteria, several lipoproteins contribute to function photosystem II (PSII) complex. They include CyanoP, CyanoQ, Psb27, which are all attached lumenal side PSII Here, we show Ycf48 factor found in cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 also a lipoprotein. Detailed mass spectrometric analysis isolated supported site-directed mutagenesis experiments indicates lipidation N-terminal C29 residue removal three amino acids C-terminus. lipobox sequence contains cysteine at ?3 position compared Leu/Val/Ile residues canonical sequence. atypical present most cyanobacteria but absent eukaryotes. A possible role for coordinated cyanobacterial discussed.

The Psb27 assembly factor binds to the CP43 complex of photosystem II in the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803.
We have investigated the location of the Psb27 protein and its role in photosystem (PS) II biogenesis in the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803. Native gel electrophoresis revealed that Psb27 was present mainly in monomeric PSII core complexes but also in smaller amounts in dimeric PSII core complexes, in large PSII supercomplexes, and in the unassembled protein fraction. We conclude fro...
متن کاملMutational analysis of the PsbL protein of photosystem II in the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803.
The psbL gene is a member of the psbEFLJ gene cluster in the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 and higher plants. psbL, a 4.5 kDa protein encoded by this gene, is a component of the photosystem II complex. The amino acid sequence of this protein indicates that it has a single membrane-spanning alpha-helical domain. We have used a targeted mutagenesis technique to delete the coding regio...
متن کاملAmmonia triggers photodamage of photosystem II in the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. strain PCC 6803.
Ammonia has long been known to be toxic for many photosynthetic organisms; however, the target for its toxicity remains elusive. Here, we show that in the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. strain PCC 6803, ammonia triggers a rapid photodamage of photosystem II (PSII). Whereas wild-type cells can cope with this damage by turning on the FtsH2-dependent PSII repair cycle, the FtsH2-deficient mutant...

Motile cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 cells show photomovement with respect to the light stimulus. Under lateral irradiation, Synechocystis displays a phototactic gliding movement toward the light source by a twodimensional random biased walk. Under vertical irradiation, Synechocystis decreased the frequency of mean vectorial gliding speed dependent on the applied fluence rate, where...
متن کاملRequirement of carotene isomerization for the assembly of photosystem II in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803.
Carotene isomerase mutant (crtH mutant) cells of Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 can accumulate beta-carotene under light conditions. However, the mutant cells grown under a light-activated heterotrophic growth condition contained detectable levels of neither beta-carotene nor D1 protein of the photosystem (PS) II reaction center, and no oxygen-evolving activity of PSII was detected. beta-Carotene a...
