The Point of No Return: Evolution of Excess Mutation Rate Is Possible Even for Simple Mutation Models
نویسندگان
چکیده
Under constant selection, each trait has a fixed fitness, and small mutation rates allow populations to efficiently exploit the optimal trait. Therefore, it is reasonable expect that will evolve downwards. However, we find this need not be case, examining several models of mutation. While upwards evolution rate been found with frequency- or time-dependent demonstrate its possibility in much simpler context. This work uses adaptive dynamics study rate, replicator–mutator equation model evolution. Our approach differs from previous studies by considering wide variety methods represent We use finite string inspired genetics as well local on discretization unit intervals, handling beyond endpoints three ways. The main contribution demonstration can significantly more complicated than what usually expected relatively simple models.

The human mutation rate is increasing, even as it slows.
Substitution rates vary between species, and many explanations regarding the causes of this variation have been proposed. Here we consider how new genomic data on the per-generation mutation rate impinge on proposed hypotheses for substitution rate variation in primates. We propose that the generation-time effect as it is usually understood cannot explain the observed rate variation, but instea...

Understanding the mechanisms of evolution requires information on the rate of appearance of new mutations and their effects at the molecular and phenotypic levels. Although procuring such data has been technically challenging, high-throughput genome sequencing is rapidly expanding knowledge in this area. With information on spontaneous mutations now available in a variety of organisms, general ...

Since the initial onset of the current severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic from Wuhan, China in December 2019, the virus is now spread all around the world, and the disease is named COVID-19. Based on the WHO report on April 18, 2021, there are now more than 140 million confirmed cases and three millions deaths due to this disease[1]. The virus pathogenesis, cl...
متن کاملEvolution: Setting the mutation rate
A recent study of X-chromosome and autosome genes in mammals suggests that selective trade-offs are important in the long-term evolution of mutation rates; but recent studies with bacteria show that high mutation rates can nonetheless evolve in the short term in clonal populations.
