The Simple View of borrowing and code-switching

Aims and Objectives: In this paper, a novel approach to the distinction between borrowing code-switching is proposed, called Simple View of code-switching. Under view, listedness seen as key condition for classifying words or multiword units (MWUs) borrowings. For MWUs, operationalized with mutual information (MI) scores: higher MI score given set words, likelihood it listed in lexicon. View, specific instantiation what belongs lexicon (fixed, arbitrary patterns) computed online (productive rules), should therefore be considered part grammar. Methodology: Assumptions from were tested on corpus switches single MWUs Turkish-German (87,000 words), which was transcribed CHAT format.
