The system of processing verb inflection in Benson’s dictionary

From the perspective of theory lexicographic functions, this paper analyses in a metalexicographic manner system processing inflection data on verbs Serbian language M. Benson?s SerboCroatian-English Dictionary (BENSON 1993). The is perceived through prism needs users whose native not three situations: reception, production (which includes translation situations) and situation which dictionary used for gaining knowledge verb language. In analysis dictionary, it has been noted that made up four methods: 1) inflected forms with suppletive present base form apophony compared to infinitive were included as headwords particular entries cross-references infinitive, but was done systematically consistently; 2) thematic are 36 separate accentual-conjugation types, type marks provided verb, introductory pages where those textually interpreted; 3) aforementioned well all athematic verbs, listed grammar section immediately after headword; 4) smaller number model from should be analogically derived entry itself. However, if sound change tense appears third fourth method applied, then partial paradigm its full or shortened before cross-reference typical mark specific verb. showed first meets reception-related dictionary. considering consistently does satisfy cases. remaining methods completely meet production-related needs, remains uncertain whether applied clear average user and, so, what extent.
