The Traffic Grooming Problem in Optical Networks with Respect to ADMs and OADMs: Complexity and Approximation

چکیده
All-optical networks transmit messages along lightpaths in which the signal is transmitted using same wavelength all relevant links. We consider problem of switching cost minimization these networks. Specifically, input to under consideration an optical network modeled by a graph G, set paths on and integer g termed grooming factor. One has assign (modeled color) every lightpath, so that edge used at most color. A lightpath operating some λ uses one Add/Drop multiplexer (ADM) both endpoints Optical (OADM) intermediate node, λ. Two lightpaths, λ, share ADMs OADMs their common nodes. Therefore, total due usage depends assignment. ring path topology function convex combination α·|OADMs|+(1−α)|ADMs| number deployed network. showed minimizing this NP-complete for combination, even with g=2. On positive side, we present polynomial-time approximation algorithm problem.

IYER, PRASHANT. The Complexity of Traffic Grooming in Optical Path Networks with Egress Traffic. (Under the direction of Carla D. Savage.) We consider the problem of minimizing network costs when grooming traffic in optical networks that support Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM). While the general problem has been shown to be NP-Hard for a number of cost measures, there still exist restric...

Traffic grooming, in which low-rate circuits are multiplexed onto wavelengths, with the goal of minimizing the number of add-drop multiplexers (ADMs) and wavelengths has received much research attention from the optical networking community in recent years. While previous work has considered various traffic models and network architectures, protection requirements of the circuits have not been ...

Approximating the Traffic Grooming Problem in Tree and Star Networks
We consider the problem of grooming paths in all-optical networks with tree topology so as to minimize the switching cost, measured by the total number of used ADMs. We first present efficient approximation algorithms with approximation factor of 2 ln(δ · g) + o(ln(δ · g)) for any fixed node degree bound δ and grooming factor g, and 2 ln g + o(ln g) in unbounded degree directed trees, respectiv...
