Thermal inertia as an integrative parameter for building performance

Abstract Traditionally, the energy efficiency properties of building envelope components are prescribed world-wide using steady-state “U-value” where insulation capabilities rely on thermal conductivity construction materials only. However, heat flow through is also restricted by effect other material combined in form inertia, a widely used parameter that can be controlled environment transient-state parameters such as cyclic transmittance “u-value”. By controlling inertia key aspects performance thermal, and fire evaluated holistic manner so balanced design solutions obtained without detriment affecting each other. Herein, it proposed assessment method uses numerical model to obtain from their insulating ultimately predict reaction-to-fire performance. The includes complementary test achieve reliable realistic assessments enable analysis like imperfections. Two wall assemblies were built first illustrate including finally verify conducting tests.
