The Motion of Dislocations in Irradiated Materials

The motion of dislocations in irradiated materials has unique features that are not seen in unirradiated materials undergoing plastic deformation. In the present work, we show dislocation dynamics studies that reveal the single and collective aspects of dislocation motion in materials under displacement cascade damage. First, we investigate the dynamics of dislocation interaction with irradiati...

Quantum effect on thermally activated glide of dislocations.

Crystal plasticity involves the motion of dislocations under stress. So far, atomistic simulations of this process have predicted Peierls stresses, the stress needed to overcome the crystal resistance in the absence of thermal fluctuations, of more than twice the experimental values, a discrepancy best-known in body-centred cubic crystals. Here we show that a large contribution arises from the ...

Thermally activated interface motion in a disordered ferromagnet

We investigate interface motion in disordered ferromagnets by means of Monte Carlo simulations. For small temperatures and driving fields a so-called creep regime is found and the interface velocity obeys an Arrhenius law. We analyze the corresponding energy barrier as well as the field and temperature dependence of the prefactor.

Dislocations in Sodium-Chloride Crystals

Distributions of dislocations in sodium chloride crystals, which were induced by heat treatment or working, were investigated, using a newly developed etchant. The crystals, which were annealed above 3 0 0 ° C , showed reduced dislocation densities and rearranged dislocation patterns. By raising the temperature to 600 ° C or 700 ° C many elongated subboundaries or subboundaries arranged in the ...

Thermally and optically stimulated processes in X-irradiated scheelite type crystals

— In tungstate and molybdate crystals having scheelite structure various (intrinsic and extrinsic) hole and electron centres are created by X-irradiation at liquid nitrogen temperature. Several of these centres have been thoroughly investigated by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) measurements. Their thermal decay and optical bleaching, resp., can be related to glow peaks of thermoluminesce...
