Thermophysical Property Measurements of Refractory Oxide Melts With an Electrostatic Levitation Furnace in the International Space Station

چکیده
Due to their high melting temperatures and the risk of contamination from crucibles, molten oxides which are above 2000 °C can hardly be processed using conventional methods. This explains that thermophysical properties very scarce. Containerless methods with gas flows have been developed several such as density, surface tension, viscosity reported. However, flow has detrimental side effects deformation sample induction internal in sample, affect accuracy measurements. The electrostatic levitation furnace onboard International Space Station (ISS-ELF), utilizes Coulomb force levitate melt samples microgravity, advantages for property measurements refractory oxide melts. Levitation without a coupled reduced gravity environment minimizes required (positioning) reduces well flow. report briefly introduces ISS-ELF facility measurement measured Al 2 O 3 then presented compared ones obtained by other Finally, data whose 2,400 summarized.

Electrostatic Levitation Technique for Thermo- Physical Property Measurements of Molten Materials on Earth and in Space
Themophysical properties of high temperature molten materials are mczsured using an electrostatic levitator in combination with several diagnostic devices. An objective of this study is to find the limitation of the earth-based measurements in order to evaluate the necessity of similar measurements in space. It is found that the hemispherical total emissivity, specific heat, specific volume, de...

We have conducted an initial set of tests to examine how astronauts in the International Space Station (ISS) can remotely operate a planetary rover. These tests, called “Surface Telerobotics”, were designed to simulate a possible future lunar exploration mission, in which astronauts inside the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV) use a surface robot to remotely explore the lunar far side fro...

| Astronauts working and living in space are exposed to considerably higher doses and different qualities of ionizing radiation than people on ground. MATROSHKA, a European Space Agency experiment coordinated by the German Aerospace Centre, represents the most comprehensive effort so far in radiation protection dosimetry in space using an anthropomorphic upper torso phantom known from radiother...
متن کاملSliding mode thermal control system for space station furnace facility
-This paper addresses the decoupled control of the nonlinear, multiinput-multioutput, and highly coupled space station furnace facility (SSFF) thermal control system. Sliding mode control theory, a subset of variable-structure control theory, is employed to increase the performance, robustness, and reliability of the SSFF's currently designed control system. This paper presents the nonlinear th...
