Thyroid Predictors of Postpartum Mood Disorders

Postpartum mood disorders (PMD) are currently among the leading causes of maternal postpartum morbidity and mortality. PMD include conditions blues (PB), depression (PPD), psychosis. The pathogenesis PMDs ambiguous, there no reliable prenatal predictive markers despite current research efforts. Even though indicators have not been found, ideas suggest an etiology hormonal fluctuations. Although thyroid long linked to psychiatric such as major depressive disorder (MDD), how they correlate with is still unclear. This study aimed evaluate pathophysiological link between function, PMDs, usefulness their occurrence severity. methodology consisted a narrative literature review. Several inclusion exclusion criteria were used filter results searches in PubMed. Studies included if discussed any marker related endocrinology relation incidence or pathophysiology PMD.
