Time-domain analysis of a bean-shaped multi-body floating wave energy converter with a hydraulic power take-off using WEC-Sim

چکیده
A novel floating wave energy converter (BFWEC) with multiple ‘bean shape’ floats and a hydraulic power-take-off system (HPTO) is presented. The overall setup consists of central buoy (C·B.) connected to set around it using lever arm position restrained taut-mooring system. Three configurations BFWEC are proposed four, six, eight number floats. detailed numerical analysis carried out by modeling the device in time-domain an open-source code: WEC-Sim (Wave Energy Converter Simulator), assuming potential theory (PWT). By incorporating HPTO all three configurations, simulations performed monochromatic waves. Appropriate parameters components for each configuration estimated maximum capture width BFWEC. effect damping coefficient maximizing output also assessed. Despite dimensions tailored shallow-intermediate Indian waters, simulated extreme characteristics test its conversion under conditions away from resonance.

Discrete Displacement Hydraulic Power Take-Off System for the Wavestar Wave Energy Converter
The Wavestar Wave Energy Converter (WEC) is a multiple absorber concept, consisting of 20 hemisphere shaped floats attached to a single platform. The heart of the Wavestar WEC is the Power Take-Off (PTO) system, converting the wave induced motion of the floats into a steady power output to the grid. In the present work, a PTO based on a novel discrete displacement fluid power technology is expl...
متن کاملNonlinear control of flap-type wave energy converter with a non-ideal power take-off system
Wave energy converters (WECs) require active control to maximise energy capture over a wide range of sea conditions, which is generally achieved by making the device resonate. The exaggerated device motion arising at resonance, however, may result in nonlinear effects that are ignored by the linear models that are typically employed. In particular, nonlinear viscous forces are significant for p...

To promote and support the wave energy industry, a wave energy converter (WEC) design tool, WEC-Sim, is being developed by Sandia National Laboratories and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. In this paper, the WEC-Sim code is used to model a point absorber WEC designed by the U.S. Department of Energy’s reference model project. Preliminary verification was performed by comparing results ...
متن کاملHydraulic, Power Take-off (pto) System
Nearly all tractor PTO arrangements used today consist of a rotating mechanical shaft with two or more universal joints. This arrangement continues to be an entanglement hazard. By driving the attachment with fluid power, this hazard could be eliminated. This project included the design, development, and testing of an experimental tractor based on a John Deere 4040. The entire power train was t...
متن کاملInvestigation of the effect of geometry float body on the power of wave energy absorber converter using mooring catenary
This paper presents the effect of hydrodynamic parameters of the two-body converters of a point wave absorber on the amount of power output. This converter includes two submerged and floating bodies which are connected to the spring-damper system. The whole of the converter is connected to the sea bed by mooring catenary. The relative displacement of the floating body and the submerged body is ...
