Tolerance to bromodeoxyuridine in a thymidine-requiring strain of Bacillus subtilis.
Mutations which allow tolerance to 5-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine (BUdR) in a thymidine (TdR)-requiring strain of Bacillus subtilis have been examined. Differences in sensitivity to BUdR existed between isogenic strains harbouring the mutations. Those mutations originally isolated as BUdR-tolerant also bestowed tolerance to 5-bromouracil and vice versa. The strain exhibiting the greatest tolerance to ...
متن کاملExtracellular proteases increase tolerance of Bacillus subtilis to nafcillin.
Mutants of Bacillus subtilis capable of secreting high amounts of protease were highly tolerant to the lethal and lytic effects of nafcillin. Protease-deficient mutants were more susceptible. However, when subtilisin was added to exogenously to a protease-deficient strain, the organism assumed the characteristics of nafcillin tolerance. Similarly, when phenylmethylsulfonyl fluoride, a serine pr...
متن کاملIsolation and characterization of a novel gossypol-degrading bacteria Bacillus subtilis strain Rumen Bacillus Subtilis
OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was to isolate gossypol-degrading bacteria and to assess its potential for gossypol degradation. METHODS Rumen liquid was collected from fistulated cows grazing the experimental pasture. Approximately 1 mL of the rumen liquid was spread onto basal medium plates containing 2 g/L gossypol as the only source of carbon and was then cultured at 39°C to isolate gossyp...
متن کاملComplete Genome Sequence of Bacillus subtilis subsp. subtilis Strain 3NA
Bacillus subtilis 3NA reaches high cell densities during fed-batch fermentation and is an interesting target for further optimization as a production strain. Here, we announce the full genome of B. subtilis 3NA. The presence of specific Bacillus subtilis 168 and W23 genetic features suggests that 3NA is a hybrid of these strains.
متن کاملComplete Genome Sequence of Bacillus subtilis subsp. subtilis Strain ∆6
Bacillus subtilis ∆6 is a genome-reduced strain that was cured from six prophages and AT-rich islands. This strain is of great interest for biotechnological applications. Here, we announce the full-genome sequence of this strain. Interestingly, the conjugative element ICEBs1 has most likely undergone self-excision in B. subtilis ∆6.
