چکیده
We investigate the applicability of a high-order Spectral Element Method (SEM) to density based topology optimization unsteady flows in two dimensions. Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) are conducted relying on Brinkman penalization describe presence solid within domain. The procedure uses adjoint-variable method compute gradients and checkpointing strategy reduce storage requirements. A nonlinear filtering is used both enforce minimum length scale provide smoothing across fluid–solid interface, preventing Gibbs oscillations. This has been successfully applied design channel bend an oscillating pump, demonstrates good agreement with body fitted meshes. precise pump shown depend initial material distribution. However, underlying pumping mechanism same. effect studied, revealing it be necessary regularization constraint for produce meaningful designs. combination SEM offer some unique challenges which addressed discussed, namely lack explicit boundary tracking exacerbated by interface smoothing. Nevertheless, can achieve equivalent levels precision traditional finite element methods, while requiring fewer degrees freedom. Hence, use addresses major bottlenecks associated optimizing flows: computation cost data storage.

Structural Topology Optimization Using Finite Element Based Level Set Method Structural Topology Optimization Using Finite Element Based Level Set Method
A finite element based level set method is proposed for structural topology optimization. Because both the level set equation and the reinitialization equation are advection dominated partial differential equations, the standard Galerkin finite element method may produce oscillating results. In this paper, both equations are solved using a streamline diffusion finite element method (SDFEM). The...

In this article, topology optimization of two-dimensional (2D) building frames subjected to seismic loading is performed using the polygonal finite element method. Artificial ground motion accelerograms compatible with the design response spectrum of ASCE 7-16 are generated for the response history dynamic analysis needed in the optimization. The mean compliance of structure is minimized as a t...
متن کاملTopology Optimization of Continuum Structures Using Element Exchange Method
In this research, a new zeroth-order (non-gradient based) topology optimization methodology for compliance minimization was developed. It is called the Element Exchange Method (EEM). The principal operation in this method is to convert the less effective solid elements into void elements and the more effective void elements into solid elements while maintaining the overall volume fraction const...
متن کاملElement exchange method for topology optimization
This paper presents a stochastic direct search method for topology optimization of continuum structures. In a systematic approach requiring repeated evaluations of the objective function, the element exchange method (EEM) eliminates the less influential solid elements by switching them into void elements and converts the more influential void elements into solid resulting in an optimal 0–1 topo...
