Toward an integrated framework of corporate venturing for organizational ambidexterity as a dynamic capability

Abstract In times of changing business environments, firms must constantly renew their competitive advantage by establishing dynamic capabilities. While often attempting to employ this in corporate venturing activities, they face the challenge simultaneously exploring new and exploiting existing opportunities. Examining possible approaches mastering feat ‘organizational ambidexterity’ reveals an extensive but scattered picture. To better integrate effort assessing how is linked with organizational ambidexterity literature identifying setups, systematic review builds on a sample 172 studies. Based different dimensions capabilities, analysis indicates that may take solely explorative or exploitative role, balance both, directly enable ambidexterity, following ‘trade-off’, respectively ‘paradox’, school thought. As result, paper identifies four setups integrated framework, based ability approach enabling ambidexterity. Here, synthesis proposed framework studies examined allows differentiating between not ambidextrous separated contextual interlinked venturing. novel contribution fields strategic management, change entrepreneurship, perspective suggests overlooked, potentially more role for renewal firm’s advantage, thus building basis further empirical research application practice.
