Abstract Objective To evaluate functional outcomes and quality of life (QOL) associated with `wait-and-watch’ (WW) strategy local-excision (LE) rectal tumours after neo-adjuvant therapy, in comparison to the standard practice total-mesorectal-excision (TME) for locally-advanced-rectal-cancers. Data Sources Medline, EMBASE, PubMed databases, sources Grey literature. Study Selection Randomised non-randomised prospective studies, retrospective studies propensity-score-matched analyses analysing WW LE procedures cancer. Extraction Synthesis Risk bias assessments data extraction were carried out independently by two reviewers. A narrative synthesis was presented keeping 27-item PRISMA checklist. Main Outcomes The interest those faecal-incontinence (FI), bowel rectal-evacuatory function, sexual-function, stoma-free-survival, quality-of-life scores, which assessed radical surgeries. Results 7 reported outcomes. Faecal-incontinence, bowel, rectal-evacuatory-function various scoring systems found be least affected among patients on strategy, followed undergoing local excision most TME.
