Tracing index of rational curve parametrizations

A rational parametrization of an algebraic curve establishes a rational correspondence of this curve with the affine or projective line. This correspondence is a birational equivalence if the parametrization is proper. So, intuitively speaking, a rational parametrization determines a linear tracing of the curve, when the parameter takes values in the algebraic closure of the ground field. Such ...

Moving Curve Ideals of Rational Plane Parametrizations

In the nineties, several methods for dealing in a more efficient way with the implicitization of rational parametrizations were explored in the Computer Aided Geometric Design Community. The analysis of the validity of these techniques has been a fruitful ground for Commutative Algebraists and Algebraic Geometers, and several results have been obtained so far. Yet, a lot of research is still be...

Rational Parametrizations of Neural Networks

A connection is drawn between rational functions, the realization theory of dynamical systems, and feedforward neural networks. This allows us to parametrize single hidden layer scalar neural networks with (almost) arbitrary analytic activation functions in terms of strictly proper rational functions. Hence, we can solve the uniqueness of parametrization problem for such networks.

Rational Parametrizations of Real Cubic Surfaces

Real cubic algebraic surfaces may be described by either implicit or parametric equations. Each of these representations has strengths and weaknesses and have been used extensively in computer graphics. Applications involving both representations include the efficient computation of surface intersections, and triangulation of curved surfaces. One particularly useful representation is the ration...

Computing Rational Parametrizations of Canal Surfaces

Current CAD systems can represent curves and surfaces only in rational B-spline (NURBS) form ( .Farin, 1994; .Hoschek and Lasser, 1993). On the other hand, certain curves and surfaces that arise in practical applications such as offsets of rational curves or surfaces are in general not rational and therefore need to be approximated. This motivated .Farouki and Sakkalis (1990) to introduce the s...
