Triage Accuracy Rates Using the New MCI Triage System of Regione Piemonte: What’s New?

Introduction: An adequate Mass-Casualty Incident (MCI) triage system is essential to provide the best possible health care greatest number of affected people and optimize management available resources in context a MCI. Method: In February 2022, Disaster Medicine Service 118 Regione Piemonte adopted new 5-color code-MCI Emergency Medical System (EMS) personnel was trained through 3-hours-distance learning course. 515 medical doctors nurses attended course completed final test (triaging 50 computer-based simulated patients/cases). Their performance compared intended designations. We collected data conducted descriptive observational study. Results: A total 25.750 evaluations were carried out: 1.030 white cases, 6.180 green yellow 9.270 red cases 3,090 black cases. Overall accuracy 89,63%. The overall errors 2.671 (10.37%). Concerning type error, there 1.415 under-triaged (5.5%) 1.256 over- triaged (4.88%). Based on color-code, highest rate error (3.48%), while patients showed (0.32%). type, most frequent under-triage patients, less over-triage patients. Conclusion: results performed by EMS rates using systems be range with reported literature. study limitation fact that analyzed are derived from online testing no-time limited no-stress conditions. Another potential distance which doesn’t allow discussion teacher or request for clarification. For this reason, we would plan future defining efficacy didactic methodology comparison face-to-face courses.
