Tuning exciton recombination rates in doped transition metal dichalcogenides

چکیده

Monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) are direct gap semiconductors that hold great promise for advanced applications in photonics and optoelectronics. Understanding the interplay between their radiative non-radiative recombination pathways is thus of crucial importance not only fundamental studies but also design future nanoscale on-chip devices. Here, we investigate doping exciton-exciton annihilation (EEA) impact on photoluminescence quantum yield different TMD samples related heterostructures. We demonstrate EEA threshold increases highly doped samples, where trions dominates.

Exciton formation in monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides.

Two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides provide a unique platform to study excitons in confined structures. Recently, several important aspects of excitons in these materials have been investigated in detail. However, the formation process of excitons from free carriers has yet to be understood. Here we report time-resolved measurements on the exciton formation process in monolayer sam...

Using dark states for exciton storage in transition-metal dichalcogenides.

We explore the possibility of storing excitons in excitonic dark states in monolayer semiconducting transition-metal dichalcogenides. In addition to being optically inactive, these dark states require the electron and hole to be spatially separated, thus inhibiting electron/hole recombination and allowing exciton lifetimes to be extended. Based on an atomistic exciton model, we derive transitio...

Exciton radiative lifetimes in two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides.

Light emission in two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) changes significantly with the number of layers and stacking sequence. While the electronic structure and optical absorption are well understood in 2D-TMDs, much less is known about exciton dynamics and radiative recombination. Here, we show first-principles calculations of intrinsic exciton radiative lifetimes at lo...

Physical and chemical tuning of two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides.

The development of two-dimensional (2D) materials has been experiencing a renaissance since the adventure of graphene. Layered transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) are now playing increasingly important roles in both fundamental studies and technological applications due to their wide range of material properties from semiconductors, metals to superconductors. However, a material with fixed ...

Exciton polaritons in transition-metal dichalcogenides and their direct excitation via energy transfer

Excitons, composite electron-hole quasiparticles, are known to play an important role in optoelectronic phenomena in many semiconducting materials. Recent experiments and theory indicate that the band-gap optics of the newly discovered monolayer transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) is dominated by tightly bound valley excitons. The strong interaction of excitons with long-range electromagnet...
