Two-pore domain potassium channels (K2P) in GtoPdb v.2023.1

چکیده
The 4TM family of K channels mediate many the background potassium currents observed in native cells. They are open across physiological voltage-range and regulated by a wide array neurotransmitters biochemical mediators. pore-forming α-subunit contains two pore loop (P) domains subunits assemble to form one ion conduction pathway lined four P domains. It is important note that single do not have pores but each subunit has its primary sequence; hence name two-pore domain, or K2P (and channels). Some can heterodimers subfamilies (e.g. K2P3.1 with K2P9.1). nomenclature literature still mixture IUPHAR common names. suggested division into subfamilies, described More detailed introduction, based on similarities both structural functional properties within this explains "common abbreviation" tables below.

Two-pore Domain Potassium Channels in Astrocytes
Two-pore domain potassium (K2P) channels have a distinct structure and channel properties, and are involved in a background K+ current. The 15 members of the K2P channels are identified and classified into six subfamilies on the basis of their sequence similarities. The activity of the channels is dynamically regulated by various physical, chemical, and biological effectors. The channels are ex...
متن کاملMolecular and functional properties of two-pore-domain potassium channels.
The two-pore-domain K(+) channels, or K(2P) channels, constitute a novel class of K(+) channel subunits. They have four transmembrane segments and are active as dimers. The tissue distribution of these channels is widespread, and they are found in both excitable and nonexcitable cells. K(2P) channels produce currents with unusual characteristics. They are quasi-instantaneous and noninactivating...
متن کاملTrafficking of Neuronal Two Pore Domain Potassium Channels
The activity of two pore domain potassium (K2P) channels regulates neuronal excitability and cell firing. Post-translational regulation of K2P channel trafficking to the membrane controls the number of functional channels at the neuronal membrane affecting the functional properties of neurons. In this review, we describe the general features of K channel trafficking from the endoplasmic reticul...
متن کاملAcid-sensitive two-pore domain potassium (K2P) channels in mouse taste buds.
Sour (acid) taste is postulated to result from intracellular acidification that modulates one or more acid-sensitive ion channels in taste receptor cells. The identity of such channel(s) remains uncertain. Potassium channels, by regulating the excitability of taste cells, are candidates for acid transducers. Several 2-pore domain potassium leak conductance channels (K(2)P family) are sensitive ...
متن کاملEvidence for two-pore domain potassium channels in rat cerebral arteries.
Little is known about the presence and function of two-pore domain K(+) (K(2P)) channels in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). Five members of the K(2P) channel family are known to be directly activated by arachidonic acid (AA). The purpose of this study was to determine 1) whether AA-sensitive K(2P) channels are expressed in cerebral VSMCs and 2) whether AA dilates the rat middle cerebral a...
