UAV Localization Using Autoencoded Satellite Images

We propose and demonstrate a fast, robust method for using satellite images to localize an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). Previous work has large storage computation costs is unable run in real time. In this work, we collect Google Earth (GE) desired flight path offline autoencoder trained compress these low-dimensional vector representation while retaining the key features. This used UAV image, which then compared precollected, nearby, autoencoded GE inner-product kernel. results distribution of weights over corresponding image poses generate single localization associated covariance represent uncertainty. Our computed 1% time current standard able achieve comparable RMSE less than 3 m our experiments, where robustly matched from six runs spanning lighting conditions day same map images.
