Ultra-High-Performance Micellar Liquid Chromatography Comparing Tween 20 and Tween 40 for the Determination of Hydroxycinnamic Acids

A simple and green ultra-high-performance micellar liquid chromatography (MLC) method was developed here, comparing Tween 20 40 for the first time as only mobile phase modifiers with a C18 column. Its application to separation of nine hydroxycinnamic acid (HCA) derivatives (cinnamic, caffeic, ferulic, sinapic, o-, m-, p-coumaric, 3,4-dihydroxyhydrocinnamic, chlorogenic acids) made, due their importance antioxidants in variety natural beverages such wine coffee. The optimal conditions 45 °C temperature (T), 1% surfactant phase, pH control 2.5 mM sulfuric were determined used elucidate analytical figures merit. Although effect these insignificant between two surfactants, nine-component HCA mixture separated faster—in about 15 min—and less peak tailing using than 40. linearity Van’t Hoff (lnk versus 1/T) plots evident 20, indicating single retention mechanism—but so equilibrium constants analytes micelles stationary calculated. successfully analyze organic red wine, spiked coffee diet pills. percent recoveries compounds ranged from 90% 107%. extract pills showed presence significant amount acid.
