Understanding mechanism of performance improvement in nitrogen-doped niobium superconducting radio frequency cavity

چکیده

Niobium superconducting radiofrequency cavities enable applications in modern accelerators and quantum computers. However, the surface resistance significantly deteriorates cavities’ performance. Nitrogen doping treatment can consistently increase cavity performance by reducing resistance, but improvement mechanism is not fully understood. Herein, we employed transmission electron microscopy spectroscopy to uncover structural chemical differences of Nb/air interface between non-doped nitrogen-doped cavities. The results indicate that nitrogen passivates Nb introducing a compressive stress/strain close interface, which impedes diffusion oxygen hydrogen atoms reduces oxide thickness.

High Field Q-slope and Superconducting Radio Frequency Cavity Testing

High field Q-slope is a loss mechanism frequently encountered by superconducting radio frequency (SRF) cavities. The goal of this experiment was to identify correlations between cavity surface impurities, caused by either nitrogen gas or a thin layer of oxidized niobium, and high field Q-slope. Unfortunately, due to an unpredictable series of complications, cavity test results were not obtained...

the role of application of dynamic assessment approach in improvement of iranian efl writing performance at different language proficiency levels

the present study sought to investigate the role of dynamic assessment (da) in improvement of iranian efl writing performance at different language proficiency levels. to this end, after conducting the quick placement test, 60 iranian efl learners were assigned to two groups with different language proficiency levels. in both groups each participant wrote two compositions, one before and one af...

Low temperature laser scanning microscopy of a superconducting radio-frequency cavity.

An apparatus was developed to obtain, for the first time, 2D maps of the surface resistance of the inner surface of an operating superconducting radio-frequency niobium cavity by a low-temperature laser scanning microscopy technique. This allows identifying non-uniformities of the surface resistance with a spatial resolution of about 2.4 mm and surface resistance resolution of ~1 μΩ at 3.3 GHz....

Evaluation of the Propensity of Niobium to Absorb Hydrogen During Fabrication of Superconducting Radio Frequency Cavities for Particle Accelerators

During the fabrication of niobium superconducting radio frequency (SRF) particle accelerator cavities procedures are used that chemically or mechanically remove the passivating surface film of niobium pentoxide (Nb2O5). Removal of this film will expose the underlying niobium metal and allow it to react with the processing environment. If these reactions produce hydrogen at sufficient concentrat...

Mechanism of nitrogen - doped SWCNT growth

We demonstrate here a simple and effective (n,m)-selective growth of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) in an aerosol floating catalyst chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process by introducing a certain amount of ammonia (NH3). Chiralities of carbon nanotubes produced in the presence of 500 ppm NH3 at 880 !C are narrowly distributed around the major semiconducting (13,12) nanotube with over ...
