Understanding Public Sentiment in Relation to the African Continental Free Trade Agreement

This study explores public sentiment in relation to the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA) by analysing 18,481 tweets mentioning ACFTA over a three-month period. The findings highlight dominance of actors outside continent discourse on thus indicating importance diaspora and foreign interests framing debate influencing opinion continent. They also salient issues include its potential effects national economies jobs as well for exploitation interests. points at disconnect between governments politicians promoting one hand average citizen Africa other it shows general negative all regions age groups, more particularly West amongst males towards ACFTA.
