چکیده

Biologically available phosphorus supports plant growth but can also cause environmental contamination. Sequential extraction methods, such as Hedley fractionation, are the most widely used to assess from solids. However, methods exhibit numerous deficiencies. The USEPA Leaching Environmental Assessment Framework (LEAF) is a tiered system developed evaluate releases of Potentially Toxic Elements (PTEs) This study compared fractionation method LEAF pH-dependent, parallel batch tests (Method 1313) and dynamic leaching column test 1314) bioavailability phosphorus. three were applied wastewater treatment sludge before after thermal treatment. Both revealed similar qualitative trends, namely that transformed into less immediately forms. inconsistent in forms amounts recovered left 40% unextracted 20% ash, suggesting it may be appropriate for organic materials. Moreover, only 2 6 pools within environmentally relevant pH conditions. Furthermore, overpredicted readily In contrast, allowed more detailed analysis availability - while simultaneously assessing PTEs across controlled range. simpler procedures provided easily interpreted results. Thus, facilitates robust valuable assessment inorganic solids being considered land application.

Extraction of raw sewage sludge containing iron phosphate for phosphorus recovery.

The objective of the present study was to establish an alkali extraction technology for FePO(4)-containing sewage sludge obtained from a wastewater treatment system that includes phosphorous removal by iron electrolysis. By clarifying the extraction properties of phosphorous, organic matter, and inorganic matter, conditions for alkali extraction were optimized. As a result, it was suggested tha...

The Use of Raw and Thermally-Modified Calcareous Sludge Generated in Stone Cutting Industry for Sulfur Dioxide Removal

Management of solid wastes is considered as an economic and environmental issue in the building stone industry. The current study uses raw and calcined calcareous sludge, generated in the stone cutting factories, in order to remove sulfur dioxide. Sludge characterization has been performed, using X-ray fluorescence (XRF), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy-d...

Drivers of Plant-Availability of Phosphorus from Thermally Conditioned Sewage Sludge as Assessed by Isotopic Labeling

Urban sewage sludge is a potential source of phosphorus (P) for agriculture and represents an alternative way to recycle P as fertilizer. However, the use of thermally conditioned sewage sludge (TCSS) required an accurate assessment of its value as P-fertilizer. This work aimed at assessing the plant-availability of P from TCSS. Uptake of P by a mixture of ryegrass and fescue from TCSS and trip...

Evaluation of stream sediment contamination by potentially toxic elements around mining and farming areas (SE Nigeria)

In this work, the concentrations of the potentially toxic elements in stream sediments in SE Nigeria were assessed for pollution monitoring in mining, quarrying, and farming areas. The levels of iron, molybdenum, vanadium, copper, lead, zinc, nickel, cobalt, manganese, chromium, barium, and beryllium were determined. The concentrations of the elements were in the order of Fe > Ba > Mn > Cr > Zn...
