Using Landsat to track land use and land cover (LULC) change from 1970 to 2020 in Mayang watershed, East Jawa

Land use and land cover (LULC) climate change (CC) will determine the dominant effect of hydrological processes on watershed. The two phenomena may alter impact be observed as erosion, sedimentation, landslide, flood, or drought that more frequently occurs significant magnitudes. assessment LULC is a crucial step to managing our environment. In this context, Landsat image well-suited satellite analyse already proved by many researchers worldwide. study, images (dated from 1970 2020) were exploited primary input calculate in Mayang Watershed. watershed (1,110.14 km2) covers about 33% Jember regency. This subject regular floods during last decades. study landsat 1 MSS, 5 TM, 7 ETM+, 8 OLI/TIRS captured 1972 2020 main input. data are processed using procedure treatment open-source processing software. case, well-known pixel-based classification algorithm (i.e., Gaussian maximum likelihood classification) applies produce maps 1972, 1997, 2002, 2017, 2020. analysed comparing area extent eight classes built-up (pavement) areas; paddy field; heterogeneous agricultural land; Dense vegetation; sparse barre land/sand/rock; shrubland; water body. results show pavement slightly increased then exponentially 1997 7,5% per year. rapid areas shows how human activities have influenced 30 years. also affects significantly occupied for fields decreases proportionally land.
